Safety

Intended Use

The Silent Brick System is designed for the secure storage of large volumes of data. Therefore, the following points are particularly part of its intended use:

  • Data Backup and Restoration
The linear data structure with random access is suitable for backup scenarios.

  • “Active” Archiving
Due to short data access times, large volumes of archive data can be stored “actively,” i.e., under constant access.

  • File Server
Large volumes of files can be stored redundantly, eliminating the need for a backup.

  • Data Transport
Large volumes of data can be easily transported using removable hard disk containers.

  • Replication and Synchronization of Data
Data can be replicated and thus stored, for example, as an offline copy. Synchronization of data from the source system to the replication can occur automatically when the replication is re-registered at the source system.

To ensure permanent data integrity, offline-stored Silent Bricks must be inserted at least every six months and a 'Force Audit' must be initiated. If it reaches 100% and no defective disks are detected, the Silent Brick may be stored offline again.

Foreseeable misuse

The Silent Brick System is not suitable for use as a database server. This would require an excessively high access rate.

Responsibilities of qualified personnel

Only qualified and authorized personnel are permitted to perform the following activities on and with the Silent Brick Library:

  • Assemble components

  • Commission hardware

  • Integrate third-party software

  • Troubleshooting

  • Dispose of components.

To be authorized to perform these activities on and with the Silent Brick Library, personnel must have received training in the following areas:

  • Assembly of IT equipment in 19-inch racks

  • Cabling of IT equipment

  • Installation and operation of software for server control.

Prohibition of unauthorized modifications

Unauthorized modifications or alterations of the Silent Brick Library are not permitted.

  • ➤ Use only spare parts and accessories approved by FAST LTA GmbH for use with the Silent Brick Library.

Notice of residual risks

The Silent Brick System is constructed according to the state of the art and generally accepted technical standards. Hazards have been eliminated as far as possible by design or secured by appropriate measures. Nevertheless, residual risks may occur during the use of the Silent Brick Library.

Hazards to persons or impairments to the Silent Brick Library and other assets may arise particularly if the device:

  • Transported, stored, assembled, commissioned, and maintained improperly by unqualified and unauthorized personnel.

  • Used improperly.

Basic Safety Instructions

Risk of injury due to electrostatic discharge

  • ➤ Always use an antistatic wrist strap with Grounding Connection or an antistatic mat with Grounding Cable when working on the Silent Brick Library.

Risk of Crushing Due to Falling Loads

  • ➤ Always handle the device or its components with two persons.

Risk of property damage due to improper handling

  • ➤ Only trained specialist personnel are authorized to handle the components of the Silent Brick Library.
