The Silent Brick is the hard drive enclosure of the Silent Brick Library. A Silent Brick includes twelve slots (3) for hard drives (4). The slots are enclosed within the Brick housing (2).
At the front of the Brick there is a handle (1) to insert the Brick into the Controller/Shelf or to remove the Brick from the Controller/Shelf.
On the front side of the handle, there is an ePaper Display (5) positioned at the top, serving as an electronic label.
The ePaper Display comprises the following components:
-
A QR code containing information about the Brick,
-
the barcode of a VTL-formatted Brick,
-
the Volume name of an SNAS-formatted Brick,
-
the archive name of a Brick used as a Compliant archive,
-
the utilized storage capacity of the Brick,
-
the available storage capacity of the Brick.
Below the ePaper Display, there is a touch sensor (6) labeled 'Silent Brick.' This touch sensor allows you to activate the automatic ejection of the Brick. The ejection pushes the Brick slightly out of the controller/Shelf to reveal the handle of the Brick.
Below the touchscreen, there is an LED (7) that can be activated via the Configuration interface of the Silent Brick Library to locate the Brick within the server rack.
On the rear of the Brick, there is a locking lever (8) used to release the Brick from its housing.
Below the locking lever, there is the electronic connector (9) of the Brick, responsible for establishing the connection between the Brick and the Controller/Shelf.
