User Management

User Management

In the “Users” section, you can manage the users of the Silent Brick Library. You can add or remove users, manage user information, and simulate a user interface for a user.

User Roles

User management is based on a role-based concept. Multiple roles can be assigned to each user. The following user roles are basically distinguished:

Add User

To add a user, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Click the "Add" button.

  • ➤ The "Add User" window appears.

  • ➤ Enter a username in the window.

  • ➤ Enter a description for the user.

  • ➤ Select one or more roles for the user.

  • ➤ To select multiple roles, hold down the 'CTRL' key while selecting.

  • ➤ Enter a password for the user.

  • ➤ Repeat the password.

  • ➤ To confirm your entries, click the “Save” button.

  • ➤ To cancel your entries, click the “Cancel” button.

Remove User

To remove a user, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Click on a user in the list to select it.

  • ➤ Click the “Remove” button.

  • ➤ The “Remove User” window will open.

  • ➤ To remove the user, click the “Remove” button.

  • ➤ To cancel the operation, click the “No” button.

Manage user information

To manage user information, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Double-click a user in the list.

  • ➤ The “Edit User” window will open.

  • ➤ Enter a username in the window.

  • ➤ Enter a description for the user.

  • ➤ If necessary, adjust the roles assigned to the user.

  • ➤ To select multiple roles, hold down the ‘CTRL’ key while selecting them.

  • ➤ Enter a new password for the user.

  • ➤ Confirm the new password.

  • ➤ To confirm your entries, click the “Save” button.

  • ➤ To cancel your entries, click the “Cancel” button.

Activate 2-factor authentication

The 2-factor authentication is time-based. Ensure that both the Silent Brick System and the platform hosting your authenticator application are connected to a properly synchronized time server.

To enable 2-factor authentication for specific users, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Double-click a user in the list.

  • ➤ The “Edit User” window will open.

  • ➤ Check the box for "2 Factor Authentication."

  • ➤ Use an authenticator application to scan the QR code (e.g., Google Authenticator)

  • ➤ Enter the received numerical code into the field One Time Passcode and save the entry.

  • ➤ For users with admin rights, a PUK is additionally assigned. This serves as an emergency code if the authenticator application is unavailable and should be noted immediately after creation. Please note that using the PUK will disable 2FA for the corresponding user.

From now on, to log into the management interface, you will need both your existing password and the current numeric code from your authenticator application. Enter them consecutively in the password field of the login screen in the order: password, numeric code.

Simulate user interface

To simulate a user interface, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Click on a user in the list to select it.

  • ➤ Click the 'Simulate User' button.

  • ➤ A new user interface for the selected user will open.

Refresh view

To refresh the main window view, proceed as follows:

  • ➤ Click the 'Refresh' button.
